Six everyday habits for healthy teeth
The small things we do every day matter for our teeth and gums. Here are simple habits dentists often talk about.
- Brush twice a day, for about two minutes, with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Clean between your teeth every day, with floss or small interdental brushes.
- Keep sweet snacks and sugary drinks mostly to mealtimes, and drink water in between.
- Change your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are worn.
- If you smoke, stopping is good for your gums as well as your overall health.
- See a dentist for check-ups as often as they recommend for you.
Bleeding gums, pain or sensitivity are reasons to see a dentist rather than wait.
